There may not be a fountain of youth, but centenarian Jim Drysdale seems to have found the next best thing.

Drysdale recently celebrated his big 103rd birthday at a party with 50 family members and friends, hosted at Meadowood Manor in Winnipeg. After blowing out the candles on his cake, Drysdale gave a speech and cracked jokes with the crowd.

Also wishing Drysdale well on his milestone birthday was Innotech Nutrition Solutions. He’s been a long-time customer of the local company’s products, specifically the bestselling CardioFlex Q10 supplement.

“He uses our CardioFlex first thing in the morning,” says Wayne Friesen, chief executive officer of Innotech Nutrition Solutions, which is based in Winnipeg, Man. “He likes the orange flavour, which tastes just like orange juice.”

CardioFlex also promotes the body’s ability to produce collagen and repair connective tissues, supporting cardiovascular health. An all-natural product, CardioFlex is vegan- and keto-friendly, and suitable for those on a gluten-free diet or those who practise intermittent fasting. It’s also available in grape and berry flavours, if orange isn’t to your taste.

“It’s very good for the heart, arteries and skin,” says Friesen. “It increases your energy levels without the caffeine, and we’ve heard from many people that after a few weeks of daily use, they notice they can walk up a flight of stairs much easier without finding themselves out of breath.”

Drysdale’s daughter, Robin, introduced her dad to the product about 15 years ago, and has her friends using it, too.

“She’s used it religiously for years,” Friesen says. “Her friends have told her that their knee troubles have gone away after a few months of using CardioFlex, which has been an added benefit. She always mentions that her friends are so happy she recommended it to them.” Robin’s mother-in-law is also a fan.

“She started using CardioFlex and adopted a low-carb diet last summer, after being diagnosed with some cardio-related challenges,” says
Friesen. “She went back for more tests in December and her cardiologist said, ‘Whatever you’ve been doing, keep doing it because everything looks great now.’”

While the supplement has many benefits, it’s meant to be just that—a supplement to an already healthy lifestyle.

“We don’t profess that it’s some sort of silver bullet,” Friesen says. “If you’re staying active, eating right and getting regular check-ups with your doctor, cardiovascular supplements like omegas and CardioFlex are great additions to a cardiovascular wellness plan.”

Friesen himself has reaped the benefits of the product he’s taken daily for the last 23 years, using it to keep up with his younger hockey opponents. At 64, he frequently matches up with and against those in their mid-twenties.

“I can skate and I’m pretty fast, but I’m not very good at scoring,” he laughs.

Whether for young athletes, the aging population (Friesen mentions there are many clients in care homes seeing results from CardioFlex), or anyone in between, CardioFlex can be a positive step forward in your health journey. Without artificial dyes or sweeteners, it’s a welcome alternative to some of the mainstream sports drinks out there.

“We’ve received good, positive customer feedback from health stores, with people recommending it to their family and friends,” says Friesen. “We rely a lot on word of mouth and social media, instead of traditional advertising.”

Along with CardioFlex, Innotech Nutrition Solutions offers a host of health-related supplements, including protein powders, herbal teas, vitamins, immune system boosters, and the popular throat spray, Colflex.

“Jim Drysdale usually has the Cardioflex drink in the morning but he also really enjoys Innotech’s Immune Essentials lemonade drink for his immune support,” his daughter Robin says.

While Drysdale is partial to the lemonade flavour, orange is another option—with the product including zinc and Vitamin D for immune support.

“Your body has an amazing ability to rebuild itself, but it needs the nutrients to do it,” Friesen says.

Innotech Nutrition Solutions has spent over 20 years perfecting its products, with more products on the drawing board, according to Friesen.

Recent releases include sugar-free beverages like iced tea, lemonade, and a berry beverage, all made without the use of artificial sweeteners. In fact, Innotech Nutrition Solutions has launched its own natural sweetener, a sugar alternative that can be used in anything from baking to
coffee.

With Heart Month being recognized throughout Canada in February, it’s a good time to re-evaluate lifestyle choices and look to make healthy changes.

“We want to change people’s lives for the better,” says Friesen.
