LETTER TO THE EDITOR – James Loewen should leave politics alone

I appreciated the letter by Wilbert Reimer in the Feb. 8 issue of The Carillon (Sports columnist should stick to sports). You have expressed my opinion and sentiments well regarding the contents of the As I See It column which was published in this newspaper written by James Loewen on Feb. 1, 2024.

I have long thought that Mr. Loewen is not doing a good job as a sportswriter. He and I differ on many topics.

President George Bush, President Trump, Prime Minister Harper or any other U.S. or Canadian republican or conservative leaders are not making sports news. Neither does Taylor Swift.

The North American conservative people are not idiots like you suggest. They see the world from a different platform than you do which does not make them wrong nor does it make your views right.

Topics like abortion, woke strategies, climate change, vaccinations, COVID-19, and most definitely extreme left liberal and socialist political dogma you think so highly of, have truly little to do with local, Manitoba, Canada and world sports. Yes these people, stars and politicians and their points of view are in this world an in our society, but they are not sports figures, who play sports that the fans want to see and hear about. They and their opinions need not be dragged into each sports column in our local newspaper.

According to Mr. Loewen the far/extreme right in politics controls and is responsible for everything that he deems as being negative in the whole world. The far/extreme right in politics in our community, province, country, and world are an exceedingly small minority in our world. Yes we have the communists, Nazis, terrorists, etc. in the world but very few if any of them have an impact on our lives in Southeastern Manitoba.

So I have a recommendation for Mr. Loewen and it is to stick to sports reporting and make sure that you are reporting the sports news and do not make the news which you are reporting. Please get off your extreme left liberal and socialistic horse and become a sports reporter which is what you pretend to be.

To the Carillon sports editorial staff I would like you to consider asking Mr. Loewen to stop making the news and start reporting the sports news which I am sure your subscribers would be happy to read.

I have to stop reading the news Mr. Loewen is creating.
