Council unanimously approved a $1.3 million tender for the 2024 capital works program.

The winning bid by Maple Leaf Construction was the lowest of four submitted. The other three from JC Paving Ltd., Diamond Construction and Gravel Ltd. and Friesen Hauling Inc. ranged from $1.47 million to $1.5 million.

The low bid was also six percent lower than the pre-tender estimate.

Council heard that the capital works program includes infrastructure upgrades on Hanover Street, Penner Street and Brandt Street.

Funds to pay for the project will come from a variety of sources.

The Hanover street renewal includes $100,000 from the generating operating fund, $235,000 from the gas tax reserve, $70,000 from the utility operating fund and $600,000 from the utility reserve.

The Penner Street watermain renewal will use up to $500,000 from the utility reserve and $90,000 from the utility operating fund.

New catch basins to be installed on Brandt Avenue will be funded with $200,000 from the province of Manitoba.

Coun. Damian Penner and Coun. Bill Hiebert made and seconded the motion to approve at their March 19 meeting.
