Storytellers Entertainment is partnering with the Pat Porter Active Living Centre to bring Café Murder, an interactive dessert theatre experience to Steinbach.

Devon Littlejohn, who comes from the area, formed the community theatre group to give people the opportunity to act.

“Here at Storytellers, we believe that everyone, regardless of experience, deserves a chance to shine on stage, offering a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all,” he said.

That’s why the cast of Café Murder comes from Steinbach, Mitchell, New Bothwell and the surrounding area.

The synopsis sets the stage for an entertaining event.

“Rosemary Saint-John is a loud, annoying hypochondriac convinced she is allergic to water. Celebrating her birthday at a restaurant with her four kooky sisters – a hippie, a valley girl, a trucker and a banker – Rosemary makes enemies with everyone around her. When she disappears and is presumed murdered, the only objective witnesses in the restaurant are the audience members, who must cast their vote. Was it one of Rosemary’s sisters? The self-taught detective? The passionate French chef? The polite and proper maître d’? The sarcastic waiter? No one is above suspicion in this delightful dinner theatre murder mystery.”

Lyla Head plays Rosemary Saint-John. Other important cast members include the Maître d’ played by Victoria Mayo and the bumbling detective Harris played by Devon Hemmett.

Audience participation is a big part of the production.

“Every table will have the opportunity to interact (with) and question each character regarding the murder,” he said. “By working together they’ll try and figure out who they think the murderer is. It’ll be cool to see which tables can get it right.”

The dessert theatre event will take place at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre on April 12 and April 13. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 per person and are available at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre during business hours.
