The Easter Bunny’s basket keeps getting bigger when he visits the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV).

Executive director Gary Dyck said 1,100 kids and parents scrambled for 45,000 chocolate eggs provided by the Steinbach A&W last Saturday morning.

The free event started in 2022 and has grown each year. This year with so many kids, the younger kids seven and under had their own section to avoid the big kid derby.

Dyck said it is a way for families to connect to the community, which was the goal with the first one as COVID restrictions started lifting.

“What I’m noticing is a lot of the families are even recent immigrants. There’s a good mix of people,” said Dyck.

“It feels good to have fun together.”

MHV plans to bring The Great Easter Egg Hunt back next year. No word yet on how many eggs the Root Bear will need to get for the Easter Bunny for 2025.
