The Town of Ste Anne is closer to adding a large piece of the surrounding RM of Ste Anne to its boundaries.
A submission to the province includes a memorandum of understanding (MOU) from the RM as the two municipalities work together to make adding more space for town growth a reality.
“We organized a meeting with the RM and we’ve also invited the residents that would be impacted,” said Town of Ste Anne Mayor Yvan St. Vincent.

He explained the MOU from the RM should make things a little quicker and smoother. Details like tax sharing agreements would need to be worked out once the province gives the OK.
The annexation would include large tracts of land all along the town’s northern border, from Highway 12 in the west all the way to Provincial Road 210 in the east. The furthest north addition would be between Highway 12 and Traverse Road, stretching a kilometre north of the current boundary at the northbound Highway 12 turning lane.
The town is running out of room as more housing is being built. St. Vincent pointed to the loss of one of the ball diamonds to accommodate space for the new daycare planned to open this fall.
The idea behind getting more space is to build more housing and have some room for light industrial.
“Mostly just residential. It’s mostly north of town towards the number one highway. That’s where our latest developments have been and just seems natural to continue to move our way north,” explained St. Vincent.
“We would love to get into some light industrial, and that would open up some space for that possibility, but there’s no irons in that fire at this point,” he added.
Any land purchases for development would not be by the town but be between developers and landowners if they are interested in selling, according to the mayor.
“We’re not anticipating huge costs, largely in the lawyer and paperwork world,” said St. Vincent.
