The RM of Ritchot has released its financial plan and it calls for no changes to the mill rate.
The mill rate for 2024 is 7.95 mills which translates to a home valued at $250,000 there will be a property tax of $1,120. School tax would be $1,425.
“In 2024, we have focused on various options of alternative sources of revenue so that we could maintain the mill rate minimum, especially with the grants from other government levels,” said CFO Muhammad Zaman.

“If there are no changes in the property assessment values of a home, there will not be any impact on the municipal portion of the taxes, but there will be an increase on the school portion taxes.”
This year’s operational budget is $18.9 million with a carryover of $1.1 million from 2023.
“The total municipal revenue is not down from last year’s budget, but it is down by $4.4 million from last year’s actual numbers. This is because the RM received grants/funding of $8 million from the province for construction of two new day care projects: one in Ile Des Chenes and one in St Adolphe,” said Zaman.
Revenue streams for this year are largely coming from environmental health services (waste removal) at $2.2 million; economic development ($295,000); recreation and culture ($214,150); rentals ($238,650); $2.1 million in provincial grant money; and $4.4 from reserves.
Expenses largely went to government services at $1.7 million; protective services ($1 million); transportation services for roads and sidewalks ($2.9 million); economic development ($677,540); recreation and culture ($1.4 million); and environmental health for waste disposal ($802,580).
Capital projects slated for 2024 totaled $8.4 million 2024 including $1.96 million for utility related capital projects. Some of the projects slated for 2024 include $2.5 million for IDC Main Street repairs; $1.2 million for Ritchot water treatment facility upgrades (filtration-piping-generator); civic site project ($450,000); office expansion ($800,600); Randolph Road well site study and construction ($375,000); and Hamilton and Charron roads reconstruction projects ($586,000); Ste. Agathe arena ice plant ($150,000); Perron Park, TC Energy Park, and Bartman park projects ($217,600); and car share electric vehicle (EV) and EV charging station project ($183,620).
