The 30th graduating class of Ste Anne Collegiate and 63rd of the school complex navigated through the storms of adolescence and approach the seas of the rest of their life after receiving their diplomas June 26.
Class valedictorian Nydia Goosehead captained the ceremony using metaphor to help point the ships of 68 graduates in the right direction.
“Like high school, life is another odyssey. Long wandering, a voyage usually marked by many changes in fortune. You’ll experience love and loss, joy and grief, success and failure.
“It’s inevitable that you will encounter treacherous sea storms and get lost a few times as you sail to your destination. So look for the light peeking through the clouds, the spots where the currents run slower, and the endless beauty that the sea has to offer.
“Even if you must change course and make stops along the way, remember that your final destination, dream and goals will always be there.”
She then quoted one of her own friends when speaking of the expectations put upon all of us and on ourselves:
“Your happiness means more than others’ disappointment.”
The Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence went to Brianna Brandt for her attaining the highest average in Grades 11 and 12.
Students, parents and teachers were joking that graduate Caitlyn McLavy definitely had sore feet with all the walking up to the stage she did. If there was an award for most awards, McLavy would have won that too after getting, among others, the Ste Anne Lions Club bursary, Brent Wery Memorial bursary, Engaged in Life Anni Markmann bursary, Caisse Financial Group bursary, Knights of Columbus Scholarship, 21st Annual Stacey Pchajek Memorial Award, Richer School Parent Advisory Council Scholarship, Ste Anne Collegiate Citizenship Recognition Award, Ste Anne Collegiate Lynx Award, and the Principal’s Award.
