It took less than an hour for a public appeal to result in the identification of a mystery woman.
RCMP issued a province-wide plea for assistance in identifying a woman at 2:26 p.m. on Monday.
At 3:18 p.m. after media outlets including thecarillon.com shared a photo, the mystery was solved.
She first came onto the radar of local police after someone brought her to Bethesda Health Centre.
“When police arrived at the hospital, it was determined that the adult female had been hitchhiking on (the Trans-Canada Highway) by Highway 12 and appeared to be in distress, so a passerby picked her up and took her to the hospital,” they said in Monday afternoon press release.
The woman was released from the hospital on July 28, but police had a problem.
With no identification and no ability to provide her information to police, there was nowhere she could go.
Steinbach RCMP had been housing her and were hoping the public could assist with identifying her so that she could get the care she needs and either go home or get a placement with a community organization.
