The 2024 Pioneer Days Parade scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday will have more entries than ever before.
Steinbach Chamber of Commerce executive director Tessa Masi said they will exceed the annual average of about 120 floats, with the “highest numbers that we’ve ever seen”.
This year brings some changes to the traditional route, which also prompts warnings from organizers.

Construction on Highway 12 prevents the parade from turning north from Main Street. Instead, Massi said the parade will continue west on Highway 52, crossing Highway 12.
RCMP will be at the Main Street and Highway 12 intersection to direct traffic and will periodically stop the parade to allow north/south traffic to flow.
That means pauses on the parade route, and though Massi said that may tempt children to run out to grab candy, it’s important they stay behind the barriers.
“We want to really encourage people to be very safety conscious this year,” she said.
The 56th annual parade will lead off at the Steinbach Fire Hall and proceed west, ending at North Front Drive.
Attendees are also reminded to bring a tin for the bin. South East Helping Hands will be collecting non-perishable food items for the local food bank.
Parade entries will also be judged. Awards will be presented for best historical, most creative and judges’ choice.
Massi said the parade continues to be popular with both entrants and spectators.
“I think that Steinbach residents really love the idea of community, and the parade is one of the biggest events that brings everyone together through the year,” she said. “For businesses it’s a wonderful way for them to be forward facing to the community, and because they keep bringing out unique floats year after year, people are excited to see what’s new in the parade.”
