A new welcome to Sprague

A brightly coloured sign with prominent lettering and a flowerbed of beautiful green, white and red plants joined the Sprague horizon. The sign was put up a few weeks ago to replace the old Sprague sign, which faded and became hard to read after spending many years baking in the Manitoba sun.

The new sign welcomes you to the town while representing where the community lies, surrounded by hundreds of trees, under a beautiful blue sky.

“The old sign had been there forever, and so we decided it was time to make a change, and so we did the sign,” said Tom Hebel, co-chair with the Sprague Community Centre. “We needed something a little more new, into this century, that stood out. The other one didn’t, you couldn’t read it, this one pops out.”

Sprague Community Center put in the applications for the sign, which cost $7,056, with $2,900 coming from Access Credit Union, and $3,500 coming from the RM of Piney, through their cultural and community identity grant. The centre raised the rest of the money through community events like Sprague Fest, which is set to take place later this month on Aug. 10.

The old sign moved to the museum, as a part of the town’s history. RT Signs designed the new sign.
