Local author Tanya Renee has released her second book in her Primrose series of romance novels and so far the reception has been positive.

“Honestly, it’s been wonderful. With the first book there has been a lot of people just discovering the series and just really excited about reading the second book,” said Renee. “That has been cool because once you get over that first novel coming out and get your readership, it’s pretty neat to see how people are so invested in the characters and really just wanting to read more…The second book has done extremely well. It has been very well received. Great reviews so far, so people are excited.”

Prairie Nights is about second chances, according to the author. Whitney Faris has just left an emotionally abusive marriage. She is independent and successful, but she’s missing true love. She meets Hayden who is six years her junior. He is handsome and kindhearted and seems like the perfect man. Will she let herself find love again with Hayden or will her past ruin her future?

“I think this book has a little bit more darkness in it. The first book was about grief and the underlying story of the loss of her father and having to deal with his legacy and having to figure out what to do with the family farm. The second book really dives into past relationships and how they can affect you later as you’re trying to move on with your life,” said Renee.

“In the case of my main character she is coming out of an emotionally abusive marriage and now she’s trying to figure out how to move on. And how the residual effects of that can effect you later on as you try to find love and move on with relationships and stuff like that. It is a little bit more dark. I’m not afraid to dive into darkness. It’s just a really satisfying love story in the end because they do get their happily ever after end.”

Renee believes that all romance novels should have happy endings and all her characters – no matter the circumstances – get their happy endings.

“I think that is so satisfying and that’s what I want my readers to get every single time they read one of my books to know that no matter what happens whatever journey they go on they will get that happiness in the end.”

Some of the characters in her books are based on real people. In Prairie Sky, her first novel, Renee used herself and her husband as templates for the main characters.

“I wouldn’t name names, but I always tell my friends and family that no one is safe,” she said with a laugh.

She’s written 10 books in the Primrose series and has now written three books from a spin-off series.

“I’ve written 13 books so far in the past year-and-a-half,” she said.

The third book in the Primrose series, Prairie Fire, will be out in September.

“(It’s) about a neighbour who meets a single father who is widowed and is trying to overcome the traumatic loss of his wife. It’s a story about overcoming extreme grief. It’s kind of a slow burn which is why it’s called Prairie Fire.”

You can find Renee’s books on Amazon.
