A new business has arrived in Steinbach giving an action-packed option for kids and adults who want to avoid the welts that can come with paintball, and spend their free time getting covered and covering their friends in jelly — or rather, Gelly.
Originally planned to be based in Niverville, the Mitchell-registered GellyBall franchise is set up outside the Pat Porter Active Living Centre in Steinbach where it had its grand opening Aug. 3. While that is its home for now, it is mobile and can be set up anywhere anyone who rents the gear and obstacles wants it.
Owner Brenton Thompson said he brought GellyBall for families seeking another fun activity for kids.

Referee and equipment manager Jaxon Palmer was helping the dozens of kids and their parents gear up with masks and the two types of battery powered guns that shoot the balls.
“Kids love it. They get really into it, diving around, hiding behind obstacles and everything,” said Palmer.
The coloured ammo is created by dipping biodegradable pellets in water and watching them grow into orbs that are 90 percent water.
“It won’t stain your clothes,” assures Palmer.
Games are five minutes each at $5 with up to 10 players at a time. That is unless a renter finds their own field of battle like a large backyard. Rentals run $500 for 10 people at 90 minutes, but are customizable.

“There was one a couple days ago that was a 10 vs. 10,” said Palmer.
The Steinbach GellyBall location is run by Endless Events Group, also known for Summer Bounce Entertainment, Meadowview Weddings near Rosengard, Steinbach’s Secret Garden Wedding, event tents and other rentals.
