Springfield Mayor Patrick Therrien stated he was neutral on Sio Silica but tried to push it through without public participation. Now the mayor states he’s neutral on Plan 20-50. He won’t answer questions because he states it’s illegal since the hearing is still open. However, he wouldn’t answer questions prior to the hearing being shut down due to the volume of attendees in opposition.

There may be a silver lining depending on if Premier Kinew’s bill does allow RMs to opt out. There is more to the plan than the hundred odd pages shared by WMR. It doesn’t bode well for a rural municipality. There is no need to give powers away to another corporation. Why have a local government when planning and development is done by another entity? Trudeau has been promising capital cities funding across Canada to comply with U.N. Agenda 21 which is a global plan to take away more of our rights and freedoms. Edmonton, the model used by WMR, has not passed yet due to public seeing it for what it is.

We need free thinkers, not followers, in our council. The mayor may say he’s neutral but his vote to opt out or stay in could again throw Springfield citizens under the bus. Springfield can work with other RMs without being involved with WMR. Springfield could have approached Tache who also requires a water treatment plant. Perhaps it could have been beneficial to both.

Hopefully the premier will also revisit the flawed Conservative Bill 37.
