Assault, auto theft, gun crime and senior drunk highlight weekend

Steinbach RCMP fielded 122 calls last weekend with a variety of highlights taking their time.
According to their report it began on Aug. 29 just after 6 p.m. when police were called to a report of domestic assault in the RM of Ste Anne. A 38-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault.
Aug. 31 featured their first stolen vehicle of the weekend. Just after 10 a.m. they were called to the Crescentwood area of Steinbach to investigate a report of a stolen grey 2004 Mazda MPV with Manitoba licence plate KUX 161.
A second vehicle, a 2010 black Ford F150 with Manitoba plate HPN 487 was stolen Sept. 1 from a 4th Street address.
Police also charged a 43-year-old Steinbach man with possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number.
A 66-year-old from Steinbach had her vehicle impounded and was given an immediate roadside prohibition and a three-month driver’s licence suspension.
RCMP are also investigating a break, enter and theft at First Choice Convenience on Sept. 2. Police say a 40-year-old man was arrested, and the investigation continues.
