Some people’s paycheques will be a little bit bigger this month after the new provincial minimum wage of $15.80 came into effect on Oct. 1.
That represents a 50-cent hourly increase to the province’s minimum wage which is updated based on the previous year’s consumer price index.
That index was 3.5 percent, prompting the increase from $15.30 to $15.80 per hour.
Saskatchewan also raised their minimum wage to $15, tied with Alberta as the lowest in Canada.
B.C. has the highest minimum wage of all provinces in Canada at $17.40. Nunavut is the territory with the highest minimum wage at $19.
