Local schools medal at cross country provincials

While no one could come home with a banner, area high school athletes were still able to strike the podium at the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association cross country provincials.

The championships were hosted in Clearwater on Oct. 9, with Kelvin High School and St Paul’s Collegiate winning the girls and boys varsity AAAA banners respectively.

Niverville won the silver in the A-AAA junior varsity girls team event, finishing just behind Warren.

Gabrielle-Roy came back with two podium placements, notching a silver in both the varsity and junior varsity boys for the A-AAA category. Pilot Mound took the junior varsity boys and Westgate won the varsity.

The Ile-des-Chenes-based school had an outstanding showing at zones this year. With several of their hockey athletes also competing in cross country, Les Roys took home three of the four Zone 13 championships.

Altona’s W.C. Miller was the top finishing school in the varsity girls A-AAA category.
