Drivers of 3,000 vehicles per day can now return to their regular route over the Provinical Road 311 bridge over Manning Canal.

They were diverted since May 10, 2023 when a fire blamed on a farmer burning stubble on an adjacent field burned the 42-year-old structure.

The new $16-million bridge does not use wood and should be more resistant to any fiery errors. It has also been built to handle heavier loads travelling between Provincial Roads 206 and 216 near New Bothwell.

While the opening is a month ahead of the expected timeline, there is still more work to be done. A provincial spokesperson said the final details and site clean-up is anticipated to occur next spring and summer.
