Weather forces game cancellations, including in MJHL

With the province getting blanketed by a thick layer of snow thanks to an Alberta Clipper Dec. 8, several hockey games across the province needed to be cancelled.
League officials noted driving was just too dangerous in the conditions.
The highest-impact came in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where the Steinbach Pistons/Winnipeg Freeze game in La Broquerie needed to be postponed alongside two other games.
The league wasted no time in re-scheduling the contest, setting it for a 12:30 p.m. start in La Broquerie Dec. 11. Steinbach would win 7-4 in front of a crowd made mostly of La Broquerie students.
Niverville’s trip to Winkler was also put on hold. Virden visiting the Winnipeg Blues was the final game needing to be postponed.
This is the second time this season MJHL games needed to be cancelled due to poor weather, as snowfall earlier in the year forced cancellations in the West Division.
The Hanover-Tache Junior Hockey League also postponed games Sunday night, with games in Niverville and East St Paul halted.
Not every game needed to be cancelled, as the La Broquerie Habs went to Lundar to take on the Falcons. The game took place at 3 p.m., avoiding the worst of the snow build up.
The Habs lost 3-2, giving up the game-winning goal with just 90 seconds left in the third period after a Felix Asselin short-handed marker tied the game with five minutes to go.
