Rosters set for MJHL/SJHL showcase

Avery Laliberte and Reece Gault continue to have mirrored seasons.

Laliberte is a 2006-born defender from Lorette, while the 2007-born Gault grew up in Oakbank. Both are playing for local Manitoba Junior Hockey League teams this season, both have committed to the Northern Michigan University, both represented Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge and now both have been named to the MJHL’s showcase rosters.

Gault is one of 10 Steinbach Pistons who will be playing at the event, which features teams of all-stars from Manitoba take on their Saskatchewan counterparts. Each league will be sending two 20U teams and one 18U team. Games will take place at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex Jan 28/29.

Joining Gault on the 18U team are teammates Luke Bogart, Mathis Laplante and Brody Green.

Bogart is a defenseman from Grand Bend Ont. He’s in his first year with the Pistons after spending a season with the St Marys Lincolns in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 32 games Bogart has 11 points.

Laplante joined Steinbach after finishing his minor career in his home province of Quebec. The Ste-Catherine born forward has 26 points this year, including a hat trick early in his first MJHL game.

Green is another Northern Michigan commit and was acquired by Steinbach before the start of the season via a pre-season trade with the Winnipeg Blues. He has 29 points in 37 games this season.

One of the league’s 20U teams is being coached by Steinbach head coach and general manager Paul Dyck. The team also includes Steinbach captain Noah Szabo, the league’s leading scorer Connor Paronuzzi, his current linemates Grady Hoffman and Brett Kaiser, Sam Noad and goaltender Christian Green.

Niverville head coach Dwight Hirst is on the coaching staff for the other 20U showcase team. Nighthawk forwards Merik Boles, Adam Vigfusson, Sean Williams and goaltender Austin Dubinsky are also on the team.

Boles is also a local player, growing up in Lorette and playing his minor hockey with the Eastman Selects.

Ile des Chenes’ Brody Beauchemin, who plays for the Winkler Flyers, is also on the 20U team coached by Hirst.
