Lorette Collegiate needs a new library

The RM of Taché has told Seine River School Division (SRSD) it plans to move its library into the new Taché Community Centre in September 2026.
Assuming that the building is completed by then, that means Lorette Collegiate will need to replace anything moved out if it wants its own library in the school.
The school board on Jan. 28 heard that it will cost up to $80,000 to replace the shelving and furniture. If SRSD covers that, the board was told any other replacements could be covered by the school’s budget.
But trustees voted to take another look at what exactly the RM was planning on taking out.
“I’d like to – I don’t know how it can be done – but verify kind of what is their’s and what is ours in that library. I mean they’re saying that 90 percent of it is their’s. I don’t know if it is or not,” said trustee Robert Rivard.
Trustee Marinus Van Osch made the motion for staff to figure that out.
“This was our library to begin with and they’re the ones who sort of came into our library. Yes, it was always an understanding back then but for us to even be working under the illusion that 90 percent belongs to the public library is a little on the high side,” said Van Osch.
“How can we lose all our shelving all of a sudden? There’s a lack of logic to that: if they weren’t there, we’d still have the shelving,” he added.
