Escape to Turkey thwarted in parental abduction case

A 45-year-old female was taken into police custody by the Peel Regional Police Service at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport as she tried to take her kids out of the country on Jan. 23.
The saga began at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23 after a 47-year-old man from the RM of La Broquerie told police that his wife left with their two children, in an attempt to leave the country.
Police discovered that the mother and two children were at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport around 1:20 p.m. and had boarded a flight to Toronto.
Shortly before 8 p.m., the mother and her two children were located at the airport in Toronto, attempting to board a flight for Turkey.
The woman was taken into police custody on charges of parental abduction. She will be transferred back to Manitoba for court.
The investigation continues.
