Caiden Gault has been recognized as one of the NCAA’s top hockey players.
The Oakbank forward is currently in his junior season at Ferris State University, and was the only player from his team to make the initial list of finalists.
Gault played for the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in the 2019/2020 season, potting 25 goals to go with 22 points in 59 games. He was named to the league’s all-rookie team.

Gault started the 2020 season with Aberdeen in the North American Hockey League, before returning to Canada to play in the Alberta junior league with Spruce Grove. He joined Ferris State for his freshman season in 2022.
Gault has earned recognition for his play on a team that is struggling to find offense this season.
The Hobey Baker award is given to a player who not only excels in all phases on the ice, but shows character off the ice.
Reece Gault, the standout rookie who plays for the Steinbach Pistons, is Caiden’s brother.
The public is able to vote on who should advance to the next round of voting, with the list being paired down to 10 players March 19 and three finalists April 3.
The Hobey Baker award is named after a First World War pilot, who was considered one of the greatest amateur athletes of his era. Baker was a standout hockey and football player for Princeton.
