Hanover School Division has approved the removal of Grade 5 classrooms from Green Valley School to South Oaks School in Grunthal.

The move will see 65 Grade 5 students move to South Oaks increasing enrollment to 381 students. Green Valley will have a decrease to 436 students.

“The essential rational is we have the space available in South Oaks school (with) empty classrooms to accommodate the Grade 5s at this time. We do know that Green Valley as a school is tight for space and we’ll wait for funding announcements to come our way as they have I the past in regards to a project there. At this time we need to address the needs as best we can,” said superintendent Joe Thiessen, noting there was public consultation with parents who were all in favour of the change.
