Steinbach’s own Dragon’s Den is back for the second time where teens compete for the ultimate prize of $1,000.

Last year Steinbach Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Challenge saw seven competing individuals or groups battle it out with who had the best business proposal.

“We’re looking for a feasible business idea,” said chamber executive director Tessa Masi. “So, something that can be practically implemented.”

SVJETLANA MLINAREVIC CARILLON ARCHIVES Steinbach Chamber of Commerce Chamber Challenge is back for the second year in a row where teens compete for the best business plan. Steinbach Christian High School student Clinton Plett won the first prize of $1,000 at the first Chamber Challenge last year.

Last year’s winner was Clint Plett with his welding business, Plemark Welding. Plett won the golden prize of $1,000. Masi said Plett’s business was already successful and the business plan he presented to the judges showed the next steps he would implement to take his business to the next level, which he did after winning the prize.

“I think they were impressed with what he’s already done with his business and also impressed with his drive to continue to grow his business in a practical way.”

Masi said anyone can come up with a great business idea and that students should ask around for advice and do some research.

“I think your business can start grassroots and small and grow into something fantastic. I think anyone can start a business,” she said.

Regarding the entrants, Masi said some of the students are already entrepreneurs with their own successful businesses and some will use their business plans to create a small business that will supplement their main source of income – a side hustle.

Those who are interested in competing in the Chamber Challenge can visit steinbachchamber.com/chamber-blog/2025-steinbach-chamber-challenge to apply. Entrants must be in middle school or high school in the Southeast.

Students can pitch a product, business idea, or service to a panel of local business leaders. First place prize money is $1,000, second place is $750, and third place is $500.

Deadline to apply is March 15 with successful applicants notified by March 25. Presentations will take five minutes and will be presented on April 17 at 6 p.m. at Steinbach Christian School. The presentations are open to the public.

“People should come out and support our young entrepreneurs in the community and come watch their presentations and support them that way,” said Masi.
