Ron Limpright didn’t have to wait long into his retirement to nab honours from the Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
Limpright was named as part of the MHSAA Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.
The retired teacher and volleyball coach spent 10 years coaching at Green Valley School in Grunthal and 27 years at Niverville High School, picking up 13 provincial championships before retiring in 2023.
Limpright was a key figure in leading Niverville to a solid stint at the AAAA level, the top volleyball classification in the province for high schools.
“Although he has spent most of his time coaching volleyball, he has always been willing to step in and help supervise or coach wherever and whenever needed, providing students an opportunity to play,” the MHSAA news release reads.
“His contributions have impacted MHSAA significantly and will leave a significant imprint on MHSAA volleyball.”
In addition to coaching, Limpright served as Zone 13 president for 11 years and was Niverville’s athletic director for 13 years, until his retirement in 2023.
He continues to serve the volleyball community as a referee.
Joining Limpright as part of the class of 2025 are builders Bryan Kornberger of Glenlawn Collegiate (basketball), Jeff Small of Treherne Collegiate (multi-sport) and Ray Grynol of St. John’s-Ravenscourt School (multi-sport).
Athletes inducted include track and field standouts Andre Smith (River East) and Karl Sproll (St Paul’s), with the Glenboro School’s varsity basketball teams from 2008-2016 honoured in the team category.
The induction ceremony and luncheon will take place May 24 at The Leaf at Assiniboine Park.
