The Steinbach Pistons are counting down the days until they can finally call the Southeast Event Centre home.

With lines and logos getting painted on the ice and the video boards nearly completely installed, excitement is building. A booth promoting season tickets and multi-game packs was a popular destination during Steinbach’s 5-4 win over Dauphin inside their temporary La Broquerie home Feb. 21.

The Pistons’ director of business operations, Kevin Geisheimer shared with fans the tentative plan was to host a couple regular season games in the new building March 14/15 before playoffs get underway. The team is hoping to begin moving from their current home at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie into their state-of-the-art digs beginning March 5.

Geisheimer warned fans to anticipate a slight learning curve from volunteers and staff for those first couple games.

“We’re still learning where the on and off buttons are,” he quipped.

The first Pistons games at the building will act as a soft launch, while a formal grand opening is in the works later this year.

Geisheimer noted the building’s liquor license will be good to go for all games at the SEC, and the team is looking for additional volunteers, especially for helping with game-day production.
