PC MLA seeks end to daylight saving time

Time changes in Manitoba will become a thing of the past if Springfield-Ritchot MLA Ron Schuler gets his way.
In a March 7 announcement, Schuler said he had introduced amendments to the Official Time Amendment Act to end what he called the “outdated and disruptive practice of seasonal time changes,”
If passed, the province would move to a permanent daylight time on March 8, 2026.
Schuler said Manitobans are tired of losing an hour of sleep and getting nothing in return.
“In fact, research clearly shows that time changes increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, workplace accidents and lost productivity,” he said in a press release. “It’s time to stop changing the clocks and leave this outdated practice alone.”
Manitoba does have legislation on the books that would allow a change, however it’s dependant on neighbouring jurisdictions making the same change.
Schuler’s amendment would allow Manitoba to change even while its neighbours keep the practice.
Saskatchewan, the Yukon and parts of B.C. do not change their clocks.
The amendment will be debated in the coming weeks.
