If there’s one thing Steinbach residents are well versed in, it’s navigating construction zones.

The Loewen intersection project on Highway 12 began last year with underground work and continues this year with street improvements.

A new project announced on Highway 12 north of Steinbach will also impact local drivers.

In a Tuesday press release Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced $24 million in improvements on Highway 12 in the Steinbach area.

The project includes resurfacing and adding fully paved shoulders to 12 kms of Highway 12 in both directions from north of Park Road to the Seine River Diversion.

Resurfacing of Highway 12 for 3.1 km northbound and southbound between McKenzie Avenue and Park Road in Steinbach will also be completed.

All work is expected to be completed by fall.

Naylor said the projects are intended to build a stronger, more connected Manitoba.

“These investments ensure our infrastructure keeps people and goods moving on safe roadways,” she said in a press release.
