Toni De Guzman is the new summer journalist joining The Carillon.
De Guzman knew she wanted to be a journalist since she was in middle school, and it stuck. She fearlessly chases stories and is committed to finding the truth, even if it is difficult or dangerous.
She grew up in Grunthal for most of her teenage years. De Guzman attended Green Valley School where she joined almost all of the sport teams.

Her family later moved to Winnipeg, and she finished high school at Kildonan-East Collegiate. She graduated high school with a diploma in photography.
Immediately after, she enrolled at University of Winnipeg and Red River College’s Creative Communication joint degree program to pursue her journalism career.
After completing an intense first year at Red River College Polytechnic and a number of internships, she gained a lot of experience in the newsroom.
Now, she is excited to be back in the Southeast to tell stories and re-connect with the community.
De Guzman is the Editor-in-Chief for her school’s newspaper, The Projector. She also reported for the Winnipeg Free Press through a scholarship. Recently, she helped cover election night with Global News.
She also won three academic awards this year: John W. Dafoe Winnipeg Free Press Scholarship, Louise Charette Memorial Award, and the Shawna Lynn Forester Smith Award.
To her, journalism is a front seat to history, an adrenaline rush, and a commitment. De Guzman knows journalism is about building trust, contributing to conversations, and giving a voice for people.
Outside the newsroom, you’ll find her unwinding on the golf course, planning her next overseas trip, or indulging in retail therapy.
