The South Eastman Rotary are taking donations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Southeast Event Centre for wildfire evacuees.

They are collecting baby needs, toiletries, and bedding.

More than 15 volunteers from Schinkel Properties helped load and sort the donations on Monday.

TONI DE GUZMAN THE CARILLON Chelsea Fernstrom (middle), who has family evacuees staying at her place because of the wildfire near Creighton, a neighbouring community to Flin Flon, reacts to seeing the amount of donations.

Chelsea Fernstrom, South Eastman Rotary secretary, is housing three wildfire evacuees in her home and camper; her parents and her brother since May 28 because her family was evacuated from Creighton, Saskatchewan due to wildfires.

Fernstrom said she felt so grateful seeing many donations especially since she sees the challenges her family is going though.

“It’s a stressful situation,” she said. “As much as they love us, I know they’d rather be out there.”

Financial contributions can be made through southeastmanrotary.com and scanning the QR code.

The federal and provincial governments are matching every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross. Every dollar donated will become $3. Donation matching will be open until June 27.

The funds will be used for financial assistance, supporting evacuees and communities they are staying in, recovery, and risk-reduction.

People can donate at redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
