The smell of burning diesel and gas exhaust filled the air as the inaugural Transformation Tractor Ride started their engines in Randolph on June 21.

The sound of idling tractors was the sound of freedom from addictions for many as the Adult & Teen Challenge fundraiser began a day of excitement.

Keith Stewart, development director for Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada, said they were thrilled with the participation. A total of 46 riders raised about $50,000 for the cause.

The day began with a pancake breakfast, and included a tractor convoy, lunch and dinner. It was described in a pre-event press release as a “meaningful opportunity for the community to come together in support of addiction recovery as they share meals, stories and encouragement.”

Stewart said the money raised helps the cause, but added they are always looking for support.

“Sometimes it seems like the need is relentless,” he said. “There’s so many people that are struggling with addiction and are wanting to seek recovery and treatment.”

“We’re always striving to make sure we can meet that demand, so we don’t have to turn anyone away,” he added.

Organizers hope the inaugural event won’t be the last.

“We have not confirmed a date, but the consensus was that we’d all like to see another event,” he said.
