Brody Beauchemin will be continuing his hockey career at the USports level.

The Ile des Chenes forward announced his commitment to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay recently. Beauchemin had a sparkling junior A career, suiting up for the Winkler Flyers for 200 games over four seasons.

Beauchemin had been weighing plenty of different Canadian university landing spots throughout the season, but ended up settling on Lakehead.

“I know a couple guys on the team, it’s close-ish to home, only seven-and-a-half hours away, it seems like a great program,” Beauchemin said when asked why he picked Lakehead.

“I talked to their coaches throughout the year, they seem like awesome guys… Their rink is awesome, they usually pack it, I only hear good things about that.”

The Thunderwolves play in the Ontario University Athletics west division. Beauchemin said he needs to be in top form to crack the Lakehead line-up as a first-year player.

“I’ve got to be the young guy again in the room, be the rookie” Beauchemin said, laughing.

“It feels like a while ago.”

Beauchemin posted 62 goals and 136 assists across the four seasons of his Manitoba Junior Hockey League career.

“It was, without a doubt, the best four years I’ve had playing hockey,” Beauchemin said.

“Making memories out there, being with your friends every day. I’m so close with my billet brothers that I lived with for my first two years and my last two years.”

A highlight of Beauchemin’s career came in his first season, when he got to suit up next to his brother Josh for a season. He also won a championship in 2024 as part of the Flyers squad which swept the Steinbach Pistons in the finals.

Many of the players on that championship roster played three years together, as the Flyers built up to winning their first championship since 1999, with Beauchemin a key contributor to the team.

“It was an awesome experience in Winkler,” Beauchemin said.

“The community is awesome there. I’ve said it before, the fans in that old rink were awesome.”

Beauchemin is working as a landscaper this summer in between training sessions as he prepares for university life. He’s planning on studying business at Lakehead.
