A fire tore through a three-bedroom bungalow in Ste. Anne Thursday morning. No one was injured.

The Ste Anne Fire Department arrived at the Dawson Road home at 11 a.m. and it was engulfed in flames, according to fire chief Robert (Bob) Saindon.

Three people were home when the fire started. More than 10 kittens near the side of the home were rescued. Vehicles parked outside the residence were saved.

Saindon said the house is a “total loss.”

The house fire is due to an “electrical issue,” Saindon told The Carillon.

The La Broquerie and Giroux Fire Departments were called in for more additional water to fight the fire.

Landlord Jolene Rogers, who lives nearby, was feeding the pigs and smelled smoke in the air and thought it was just the wildfires until she saw a “black, dark smoke.”

She said believes the fire started because of a phone charger.

Rogers said she has owned the property for 16 years, and the tenants were living in the house for around three years.

“Houses can be replaced. People can’t,” said Rogers.

The fire is under investigation.
