The province will pay for half of the costs for a $7.3 million forcemain twinning project and upgrades to Lift Station 1 at Park Road West in the City of Steinbach.
“This particular project has been on the city’s long term capital plan since 2021. So the notice from the Manitoba water services board of the approval of grant funding for this project is welcome news to receive,” said city manager Troy Warkentin.
“This is a great project because it will increase capacity for the lift station and the pipes to the sewer. Plus it will increase capacity for existing houses and businesses and also for the new growth that we’re seeing,” said Mayor Earl Funk, who noted this was an example of the province recognizing the growth of the city and its infrastructure needs.
“I think I’ve had three ministers meetings this month already. I’m finding more and more ministers are interested in Steinbach and they want to meet with us. We’re being positioned as an economic driver in our province and we’re being recognized that way and that’s exciting. And that’s what’s happening in our community, we are growing and when you look at Southeast area – the region – it’s one of the fastest growing regions in the country.”
