A Steinbach church has bought a new building to meet the needs of its growing congregation.

Calvary Church purchased the space on 179 Chapel Drive, which is the former home of Springs Church and Full Gospel Church.

Robert Balfour, team leading pastor for Calvary Church, said his congregation has nearly doubled in size and needed to find space to support the church’s expansion.

“This new property represents an exciting new chapter for our congregation, offering space and facilities to meet our current ministry needs while preparing for future growth,” he said in a Monday press release.

Calvary Church moved into its present location on 305 Main Street in 2020 and have been leasing the space from Steinbach Credit Union. Talks about purchasing the vacant church began before summer this year, Balfour said, but he couldn’t give a precise timeline.

While there’s no date yet for when the church will move, Balfour said renovations have already been planned.

Balfour didn’t say how much the church spent on the new building.

He said Calvary Church has enjoyed a good relationship with the credit union while leasing the space, and it’s been great working with them.

“The credit union has been some of the best landlords we could’ve hoped for,” Balfour said.
