The first ever Walk for Hope scheduled for Saturday at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach will provide inspiration and celebration.
Hosted by Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS), the fundraiser continues to gain momentum.
The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with registration and includes a community breakfast for cancer survivors (and the public with a donation), a survivor’s walk, survivor’s stories, singers, caregiver stories, sponsor stories, volunteer stories, awards and draws.

The entire event is free, with the Superior Projects Main Stage hosting a variety of acts.
Bouncers, face painting, tattoos, games, food trucks, a 50/50 raffle and more make it a must attend day.
SCSS executive director Cindi Rempel Patrick said people can still register right up to the day at the park site as an individual, couple, family or business.
Honour balloons will also be available for a minimum $10 donation, which line the pathways. Honour balloons can also be purchased by those not in attendance and pledges to support walkers can be made at www.secancersupport.ca.
The public is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

Organizers say it’s more than a Steinbach event.
Instead, it represents communities across southeastern Manitoba as SCSS covers 88 communities in the region with their assistance, support and programs.
More than 250 walkers are expected to attend the event that is being supported by more than 100 volunteers.
Rempel Patrick said the Walk for Hope is an opportunity to come together for cancer survivors, caregivers and people who want to show their support.
“Everyone is invited to come to the park, observe and feel the vibe of true community, inspiring, supporting and celebrating each other,” she said. “These gatherings are rare – let’s embrace them.”

Bev Dueck, committee chair, said it’s about walking together as a community to show that no one facing cancer does so alone.
“It’s about promoting hope, spreading awareness, and honouring the incredible stories of courage and resilience,” she said. “This event is not just about raising funds, but about creating a sense of hope, unity, and connection across southeast Manitoba.
Scheduled performers include Scott Jodoin, Corny ‘Elvis’ Rempel, Joe Draude, Darryl Marsch, Artista Academy Musical Theatre, ClubWagon Creek Band, and Crossfire Band.
