The RM of Tache held a public hearing on Monday to present a draft of their new development plan.
Two planning consultants from Landmark Planning and Design made a presentation to council and the public about the new development plan. Some of the changes included revising policies, such as including a separate housing and environment policy, and predesignating land that was for agricultural use to rural urban living.
“From a policy standpoint, there’s no major changes other than just emphasizing some priorities that the RM has that maybe weren’t quite as prominent,” said Matt Gowdar, one of the planning consultants.
The province mandates rural municipalities to create a new development plan every five to 10 years.
Aggregate mining policies were expanded to apply to all areas of the RM, when it previously was limited to the escarpment areas, to reflect the demand in the region and across the province, Gowdar said.
Some residents confused the development plan with the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, a planning group for Manitoba’s Capital Region, of which Tache’s mayor is a board member.
Others voiced concerns about approving developments before proper infrastructure could sustain the area, such as expanding roadways for increased traffic.
The development plan will undergo its second reading either on Oct. 21 or Nov. 18.
