A pair of teenagers were caught thanks to the quick action of an off-duty police officer, after they stole from the Steinbach Liquor Mart.

RCMP said in a Monday news release that a 15-year-old male and 14-year-old female, both from Steinbach, stole three bottles of liquor.

The off-duty police officer witnessed the theft and demanded they return the stolen items.

Steinbach RCMP responded and seized the three bottles.

Both youths were arrested, while the female was in possession of dog and coyote attack deterrence spray.

The 14-year-old was remanded into custody. She faces charges of theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and three counts of failing to comply with court conditions.

The 15-year-old male was released on an undertaking for a later court date.

He faces charges of theft under $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer as police say he initially refused to provide his proper name.
