October is a month of transformation. The vibrant greens of summer gradually give way to a rich palette of amber and gold. The air grows crisp, daylight shortens, and nature prepares itself for the stillness of winter. In this quieting season, we are offered a powerful reminder, change is inevitable, and with change comes reflection.

Thanksgiving invites us to pause and appreciate the blessings in our lives. Whether it’s the warmth of family gatherings, the comfort of traditional meals like turkey dinners and pumpkin pie, or simply the presence of those who love us, it is a time to be grateful for what truly matters.

This year, I have the special joy of celebrating Thanksgiving as an Opa. Becoming a grandparent is a profound reminder of the importance of legacy, family, and love. Watching the next generation grow fills me with both gratitude and hope for the future.

Gratitude, however, should extend beyond the dinner table. Reflection is an important part of personal and communal growth. In a world of over 8 billion people, each of us is touched by only a small circle who truly invest in our lives. These are friends, neighbors, mentors, and family who support us, guide us, and lift us up. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to acknowledge them. Take a moment to consider who has helped you become the person you are today, and if you can, let them know how much they mean to you.

Historically, Thanksgiving was a celebration of the harvest, a time to rejoice over the fruits of the land and the hard work of farmers who provided for the community. Here in our community, we are fortunate to be part of a region that continues to feed not just our province, but the world.

Beyond the fields and farms, it is the contributions of everyday people that sustain us. Teachers, healthcare workers, volunteers, shopkeepers, and parents all play an important role in the community. Whether we offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm meal, we contribute to the spirit of Thanksgiving each and every day.

As we journey through this season of change, may we hold close the lessons of gratitude, connection, and reflection. May we celebrate not only what we have, but who we share it with. And may we continue to build a community rooted in kindness, care, and thankfulness.

Happy Thanksgiving, and God’s Blessing to you and yours.
