The Carillon Sultans junior team continues to add to their trophy case, as the team was recognized as the province’s best major high performance team of the year in Baseball Manitoba’s annual awards.

The Sultans completed back-to-back championships, finishing as the league’s top regular season team en route to a 3-1 series victory over Elmwood in the championship. After claiming the provincial title for 2025, they finished off their duties as Manitoba champions in 2024 by heading to the 22U National Championships, where they battled to a bronze medal finish.

Carillon claimed bronze in entertaining fashion, plating home a run in the second extra inning to set off celebrations.

There was more hardware heading the region’s way, as William Mateychuk was honoured as the province’s top 15U player of 2025.

Mateychuk is a dual-sport athlete, playing hockey with the Eastman Selects. He was selected by the Vancouver Giants in the WHL draft this year, and is playing with the U17 AAA team this winter.
