For the second year, Southeast Cancer Support Services will benefit from a special event that gets people active.

While last year it was called “Beauty, Bikes an Bellinis”, this year’s twist has seen brunch added.

The fundraiser takes place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Smitty’s Restaurant and the community based not-for-profit will benefit, allowing them to continue offering transportation, resources, support, education and hope for cancer patients and families in 88 communities throughout southeastern Manitoba.

Spin classes will take place at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the Smitty’s banquet hall, instructed by Warehouse Cycle Studio teachers who have donated their time.

Participants will pay by donation for the class, receive an energy drink from Supplement King, a complimentary brunch and mimosa from Smitty’s and complementary mini-skin consults, samples, coupons and a special free draw for cancer survivors by Skin Rehab, Sophia & Rae Aesthetics and Sonne Clinics.

Cancer survivors will share their stories during the cool down phase of every class.

All can purchase tickets for the grand prize raffle, either online at www.secancersupport.ca or in person. The grand prize is valued at $2,200 and includes box Jets tickets and dinner, a beverage basket and a medical/aesthetic skin package.

Southeast Cancer Support Services executive director Cindi Rempel Patrick said the event is about wellness in addition to raising needed funds.

“Whether it’s physical wellness or mental wellbeing, these people come together to be inspired by that,” she said. “To be healthy and to be fit is important and that’s a huge component for cancer patients to avoid cancer and also for cancer patients in recovery.”

Rempel Patrick said the event is also very positive.

“It’s celebratory,” she said. “We’re celebrating people who have survived cancer and we’re also celebrating the lives of the people we have lost to cancer as well.”

In addition to annual fundraisers held in October to celebrate their anniversary, they often hold others throughout the year.

In fact, one of the owners, Jodi Unger, said even their grand opening six years ago was a fundraiser.

“It’s good to give back to the community because the community has been great to us,” she said.

This is the second year their fundraiser will support Southeast Cancer Support Services.

“We find it is a really great partnership between our organization and Southeast Cancer Support Services just because we are trying to help people not only get physically healthy or heart healthy but also that we want people to be mentally healthy and flourish wherever they are in their journey,” she said.

Unger added they look forward to introducing people, in some cases for the first time, to spinning, which she describes as a fabulous way to work out,

Smitty’s will be serving pancakes and mimosas and owner Kaely Dyck said they’re excited to be a part of it.

“We love that we get to watch our guests through so many phases of their lives; and to us, that also means being there during the times where they need support,” she said. “Bringing people together for the greater good of our community is very special and we are honoured to be a part of this event and the gathering place for occasions like this.”

Ashley Jowett from Skin Rehab, Sonne Clinic and Sophia Rae Aesthetics, said they are also honoured to be part of the event.

“Moments like this remind us how powerful it is when people come together for a shared cause,” she said. “It’s not only about raising awareness, it’s about understanding, compassion, and finding new ways to better support those navigating incredibly personal journeys.”
