COLUMN: Village News – November moments you don’t want to miss

A new month has rolled along and brings with it, a list of upcoming events at the Mennonite Heritage Village.

Melodies of Christmas – Nov. 27

If you have a love for both music and Christmas, “Melodies of Christmas: a Christmas Musical Showcase” is for you! On Nov. 27 from 7 p.m to 9 p.m. you’ll hear the sounds of the Steinbach Mennonite Handbelles, Tenuto Singers, and the Southeast Community Concert Band. This will be an evening jam-packed with Christmas music and festive cheer. To conclude the evening, we’ll be serving Christmas goodies, coffee, and hot apple cider. Tickets are $15 and they can be purchased ahead of time at MHV reception or by phone at 204-326-9661.

Light up the Village – Dec. 6

3… 2… 1… Lights! Looking into December, MHV is excited to host “Light up the Village: Christmas Tree & Village Lighting Ceremony” on Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Join the countdown at 6 p.m. to watch the village light up with thousands of Christmas lights. Enjoy caroling, Winter in the Village Café, hot dog roasting, paper garland making, and sleigh rides in our picturesque village. Relive the charm of an old-fashioned Christmas in our historic Pioneer village! Admission is free for this event.

Upcoming events

Nov. 14 – 7 p.m. – MHV Auxiliary presents a Low German evening, featuring special music by Heischraitje & Willa Honich.

Nov. 27 – 7 p.m. – Melodies of Christmas. Join us for a joyful evening of festive music, featuring Stenbach Mennonite Handbells, Tenuto Singers, Southeast Community Concert Band.

Dec. 6 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Light Up The Village – Join us as we light up the village for the winter season. There will be food, music and activities for all ages. Admission is free.

Dec. 29 to 31 – Kids’ Winter Day Camp – A three-day winter break camp for ages 6-11 years old. Join us for crafts, games, and pioneer activities. Contact Jaysa Thiessen for more information ( jaysat@mhv.ca ).
