LETTER TO THE EDITOR: PM is making the right moves

As we are all aware, we recently had a federal election where Canadians decided to elect a minority Liberal government. This does not mean that we were asking for a new election right after the first budget. We expect cooperation and not destruction.

Prime Minister Mark Carney seems to have garnered the nation’s attention. His poll numbers are high where the opposition leader stays under water. There is a message for Canadians and Americans here. We are not looking for chaos and noise. We need a steady stable leader to take us through the turmoil and threat during the Trump administration.

Mr. Carney seems to be diplomatically smart to avoid noise when dealing with a bully. All indicators are there that he means business to make Canada stronger and more independent. He is not showing Donald Trump the victim card to complain about the mistreatment, instead he is busy connecting with other trading partners across the world,

Under the radar more things get done. The final goal is to become less dependant on an unreliable trading partner. The U.S. moves towards isolation and Canada might just be able to fill part of that void and increase economic influence in the world of free trade. The decoupling from the U.S. is not going to happen overnight, but moving that direction will help us to survive short term and thrive long term. The divorce proceedings are going to be slow and painful, but necessary to become independent.

My views on our prime minister’s handling of the sensitive situation are positive. I cannot be persuaded to jump on the gloom and doom wagon. The budget reflects the direction that Canada is going. As long as the budget and the national dept stay within range we will be fine. Our national credit rating reflects that reality. As long as our credit rating is good, we should be able to crawl out of the debt load. I am not an economist or a political strategist, but I am learning as much as possible about this wonderful country we have the privilege to live in.

Just a few thoughts regarding the opposition party. No, Mr. Poilievre, this country is not broken, and the Christians are not persecuted as you claim. The more progressive conservatives (red Tories) feel very uneasy with such harsh MAGA type scare tactics. This is a small wake up call.
