Local businesses have joined forces with the Southeast Event Centre to make it feel like Christmas.

Director of communications, marketing and sales, Michelle Swatzky-Koop said the festive wonderland is thanks to some incredible generosity and teamwork.

“As the Christmas season was approaching, the thought of filling every corner of this brand-new space with holiday cheer felt like a daunting task,” a news release stated. “But true to the spirit of Steinbach and southeast Manitoba, local businesses and neighbours stepped forward.”

The festive touches are visible in a variety of areas.

In the Penn-co Lounge, Canadian Tire has filled the space with pre-lit trees, wreaths and decorations.

The atrium is home to a 12-foot tree, cut and delivered by CD Trees, alongside two seven foot Balsam firs and live wreaths.

The Forum & Bistro features a festive tree, special table decor and a welcoming wreath thanks to Sunshine Nursery and Greenhouse.

At the top of the atrium stairs, Oakridge Garden Centre created a winter wonderland display. Their artistry continues into the premium lounge and suites.

Sawatzky-Koop said it’s more than just decoration but is a reminder that the facility was built by community for community.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude,” she said. “This is the epitome of teamwork. Thank you hardly seems enough, but we hope everyone who visits feels the love and care that went into making this space shine.”

Signs by each display give tribute to the business that put it together.

“We want the public who come in here and enjoy it to go and shop at these places,” she said. “Support local, support our businesses here in Steinbach, because they have supported this community centre in such a nice way.”

Sounds of Christmas

With the sights of Christmas taken care of, the Southeast Event Centre has also turned their attention to the sounds.

Local school choirs will make the trip to the SEC to perform, following their scheduled performances at Steinbach Credit Union. They will arrive at the SEC at 10:45 a.m. and set up on the atrium stairs.

They include Mitchell Elementary on Dec. 9, Blumenort School on Dec. 10, Stonybrook Middle School on Dec. 11 and Parkhill School on Dec. 12.

“We are so grateful to host these choirs and to be the recipients of their hard work and amazing musical skills, especially at Christmas time,” Sawatzky-Koop said. “Their performances bring warmth, joy, and community spirit to our decorated space, and we can’t wait to welcome them.”
