A pair of initiatives will allow Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS) to boost their coffers this holiday season.

SCSS announced two ways the public can help support their mission earlier this month.

“Imagine living in a small rural community and fighting cancer while also worrying about how you’ll get to treatments, cover rising living costs, or manage time away from work,” an SCSS news release stated. “For many families in southeastern Manitoba, this is their reality.”

SCSS offers compassion, practical help and hope, reminding clients that they don’t have to face cancer alone.

Home for the Holidays will help with that.

For the month of December, all donations to SCSS will be matched by Enex Siding and RIVR Financial up to $6,000.

Every gift of $20 or more also generates a prize ticket for a hotel stay, four Steinbach Pistons’ tickets, and dinner.

The charity is also the beneficiary of a donation night at Snow Place Like Home, a drive through Christmas light show that runs from Dec. 19 to 31 at the Hanover Ag Exhibition Park in Grunthal.

For one day only, Dec. 29, entrance is by donation with all proceeds going to SCSS.

Those who donate $50 or more will get a tax receipt.

Donations can be made at the gate or through the website at www.secancersupportsupport.ca.

Executive director of SCSS, Cindi Rempel Patrick, said they are overwhelmed with the invitations from businesses, other community non-profits, and rural municipal governments to join them in raising funds.

“These fundraising projects are truly unique and emphasize how anything can be possible with businesses who care and the community who supports these efforts,” she said.

Funds raised will be used to transport patients from 88 communities across the region to their treatment and assist with parking fees and other incidentals not covered by the medical system. It also funds support groups, wellness programs, head coverings, and assists with skin screening clinics and lymphedema treatments.
