Drugs seized in La Broquerie traffic stop

Steinbach RCMP say a slow moving mini-van in a residential area of La Broquerie at 4 a.m. was suspicious, leading to a traffic stop that saw two arrests made and drugs seized.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of Feb. 24.

Police say they observed the van driving slowly, entering a driveway briefly, before continuing to drive slowly.

After initiating the traffic stop, police learned the driver was breaching his curfew, set as release conditions.

RCMP say the driver was arrested and drugs were observed in the vehicle.

Both the 29-year-old driver and 34-year-old passenger were arrested and police found what they say is believed to be cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, Canadian currency, drug paraphernalia, a home-made conducted energy weapon and break-in instruments.

Jacob Reimer of Steinbach faces six charges of failing to comply with conditions of his release, three charges of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, and single charges of possession of break-in instruments, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of the prohibited weapon.

Wayne Town of Ste Anne faces three charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Both were remanded into custody.
