Merik Boles has certainly made an impact with the Niverville Nighthawks.

The Lorette product has played more than 200 games with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League franchise just down the road and is one goal or assist away from passing the 150-point mark.

“It’s nice to stay home, play junior here, and still stay close and go to school here,” Boles said after a win against Swan Valley Feb. 27.

The former Eastman Selects standout will continue his career at the collegiate level, as he announced his commitment to the University of Regina last week.

“I really liked the coach, we had a lot of good conversations and it seems like a good fit for me, it was a no-brainer,” Boles said, adding he has family in Saskatchewan and is looking forward to the University experience.

“It’s exciting.”

In his one season playing for the Eastman Selects U18 AAA team in 2021/2022, he scored 45 points in 39 games.

The 2025/2026 season is his best in the MJHL, as he’s scored 69 points in 54 games so far this season, as part of a lethal trio of veteran forwards the Nighthawks have deployed all season. Boles normally plays alongside Hayden Wheddon and captain Adam Vigfusson.

Vigfusson is currently out after taking a puck to the face after it careened off the post during practice, but should be good to go for the playoffs.

“It’s been great, we’ve got a lot of good chemistry,” Boles said.

“We’ve got a lot expectations going into the playoffs. We’ve had a great season so far, just looking to keep it going.”

The University of Regina Cougars play in the Canada West conference.
