A Niverville clinic has added three new doctors to serve residents and see patients.

Open Health Niverville, a health care facility operated through the town’s administration, announced the new staff in a Feb. 23 press release.

The new doctors bolster the clinic’s existing 12 physicians providing care. Among the new hires, Dr. Trevor Poole, a graduate from both the University of Saskatchewan and Brandon University, will take on new patients as a family doctor, the release said. Poole, raised in Moosomin, Sask., worked as a doctor in clinics and emergency rooms in the Prairie Mountain Health Region prior to joining Open Health Niverville.

He is accepting all ages of patients, with key interests in LGBTQ+ health care, mental health, ADHD and preventative health care, the release said.

Poole also shares a “small fur-family” of two cats and a chihuahua with his partner.

The clinic also added Dr. Shady Attalla and Dr. Mazin Tuma as same-day doctors, increasing the number of same-day appointment spaces.

The two doctors will be available on select days for both patients and non-patients, the releases said. Same-day appointments are different to walk-ins, with cared limited to certain days and provider availability.

Poole, Atalla and Tuma were not available for an interview by deadline.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck was pleased to see the boost in doctors.

“As we have more and more medical professionals that are working out of the clinic, this enables more and more residents in Niverville and the surrounding areas to not have to travel outside of the region for medical help, and that’s a huge plus,” he said.

Open Health Niverville has been proactive in recruiting doctors and sends staff to functions, seminars and conferences to network with doctors and in hopes of attracting them to the town, Dyck said.

Working in Niverville may appeal to doctors who want to have flexible schedules and practice in both Winnipeg and in the town, while simulateously growing the clinics overall hours, he added.

Young doctors were previously attracted to the town because of the access to education and rise of young families moving to Niverville, Dyck said.
