It isn’t just the Steinbach Pistons reaping the benefits of the increased attendance and revenue at the Southeast Event Centre.

All season, the Pistons have been raising money for Steinbach’s minor hockey through their 50/50 draws.

“Our partnership with the Pistons has been fantastic,” Steinbach Minor Hockey President Josh Plett said in a Pistons news release.

The Steinbach Pistons present representation from Steinbach Minor Hockey with a cheque for nearly $20,000 at the start of the playoffs, thanks to a partnership to donate proceeds from their 50/50 draws. “The money we get from the 50/50 proceeds goes directly into lowering costs for families to register their kids as costs continue to increase.”

The 50/50 draws raised nearly $20,000 across the regular season, with over $6,000 added through the team’s six playoff games. The Pistons also supported minor sports with tickets for any players who were in town for a tournament at the SEC.

“This is a great partnership with our community,” Steinbach Pistons Director of Business Operations Kevin Geisheimer said.

“Our new facility is all about bringing people together, and we felt that collaborating with Steinbach Minor Hockey was a natural fit.”

Minor hockey is just one of the beneficiaries of Steinbach Pistons fundraising. Steinbach Ringette ran a chuck-a-puck promotion this season, with nearly $3,000 raised.

The team donated $9,000 to Southeast Cancer Support Services following their CancerCare game, and helped the Manitoba Moose raise $2,500 for Southeast and Area Animal Rescue during their pre-season game in the facility.
